Gotland is Sweden's largest island (3140 km ²) with almost 800 km of coastal strip. History goes far back in time and in Visby narrow cobbled streets, warehouses and church ruins testify to a bygone era.
The island is flat and the sea you see most often. With its approximately 2000 hours of sunshine and wonderful beaches, Gotland is an excellent tourist destination even for those who are not interested in history and culture.

Travel

Day 1

Visby

Right next to Visby's well-preserved ring wall from the 1200th century is Best Western Solhem Hotell. Here you live centrally with the medieval cobbled streets and the historic buildings just around the corner. At the same time, you can feel the tranquility of beautiful natural surroundings and the proximity of the sea. Use the day to stroll around and breathe in Visby's atmosphere. Find a cozy restaurant and enjoy Gotland specialties such as lamb, saffron pancakes, salmon berries and much more.

Day 2

Visby - Warfsholm (bike ride 33km)

Today begins your cycling adventure! You pick up your bike on Visby rental bike, then just hop on the saddle and pedal south along the marked bike path "Gotlandsleden". The first stop on the journey is Södra Hällarnas nature reserve. This was previously a military firing range, here all of the island's habitats are represented. If you are lucky, lambs graze at the entrance to the reserve. Continue cycling for a while and soon you will arrive at Högklint. Högklint is one of Gotland's highest cliffs (48 masl) from here you have wonderful views of Visby and the Baltic Sea. Just south of the fishing village Ygne is well worth a visit. Ygne consists of small windswept sheds, rocks, cliffs, fossils and is incredibly beautiful. If you want to swim, you cycle on to Tofta beach, one of Gotland's most famous beaches. In Kneippbyn you will find Villa Villekulla, a water and summer country and adventure golf, a perfect stop if you have the children with you. The trip continues towards Klintehamn, the road along the sea is fantastically beautiful but watch out for lambs on the bike path !! Here accommodation and dinner await at the historic Pensionat Warfsholm which is located with a view of the Karlsöarna, here you can experience a magical sunset.

Day 3

Warfsholm - Ljugarn (bike ride 46 km)

Now it's time to hop on the bike saddle and cycle across Gotland to Ljugarn. At Lojsta you can visit Lojsta heath, known for its wild-roaming horses, Gotlandsrussen. Cycle or go into the heath to see if you find any grazing horses. If it gets sweaty on the bike, there is a swimming lake on the road, right next to Lojsta Castle, here you can both take a dip for the cool and take a tour of history. At this place you can visit the reconstructed Iron Age farm, Lojstahallen, and walk the barely kilometer-long cultural path among the small lakes. The castle, or the ancient remains of an old medieval castle, you will see if you follow the path. Gotland is also known for its skilled potters. Ethelhem has the oldest pottery, which was founded at the end of the 1800th century. There is also a small café, perfect for a liquid break and an ice cream on the way. Arriving in Ljugarn, you check in at Pensionat Lövängen, which will be your home for the next two nights. In the evening, dinner is served in the middle of the beach at Ljugarns Strandcafé.

Day 4

Lying yarn (on your own)

Discover Ljugarn on your own, just over 100 years ago, paradise was discovered on Gotland. Today, Ljugarn is one of Gotland's most popular holiday resorts. The kilometer-long sandy beach, Vitvär's small fishing village with holiday village, the exciting rauk field Folhammar and Strandridaregården's museum are some places to visit that are recommended. Raukarna attracts to climbing and there is also a paved labyrinth to explore. Here you have an adorable view of the Baltic Sea. For lunch, you have several cozy restaurants to choose from and also take the opportunity to enjoy a good ice cream during the day. Tonight, dinner is served again at Ljugarns Strandcafé.

Day 5

Ljugarn - Visby (bike ride 46 km or 71 km)

The last stretch of your cycling holiday takes you across the island, from east to west. If you can imagine cycling a few miles extra, the trip across Östergarnslandet and Kattharmmarsvik is fantastic to discover by bike. Here you cycle along limestone white roads that meander along the coast. Enjoy the barren landscape at Grogarnsberget and the view towards Östergarnsholm. At Sysne there is a beautiful little harbor where you can buy freshly smoked fish. If you start to get tired in the legs and want to take the fastest road to Visby, you can cycle along a busy road all the way. Not an equally cozy stretch to cycle but on the way you can discover the Gotlanders' thousand-year-old meeting place Roma in the middle of the island. Here you will find Gotland rooms with arts and crafts and design from all over Gotland as well as exciting art exhibitions, Info-center, Roma monastery ruin, Roma glassworks with factory sales, Permission Chapel, an Herb Garden and Café. At Roma Kungsgård you can e.g. try different crafts, buy fine Gotland products, have coffee, go on a guided tour or stroll around the historic environment yourself. For current program and prices, see www.romakungsgard.se. Back in Visby, check in at Solhem Hotell, stroll away to Visby Hyrcykel to return your bike and then snuggle around in Visby's alleys and look for a cozy restaurant for the evening.

Day 6

Visby (return trip)

Last day of your cycling holiday. Enjoy the sea and the promenade or explore something you did not have time for during the previous days in Visby. An ice cream at Glassmagasinet down in the harbor is a popular end to the trip, they have 346 different flavors from 8 different ice cream suppliers. Guteglass, Gotland's own pride is almost a must try when you're on the island. The ferry will then take you back to the mainland. Hope you had a fantastic stay on Gotland together with the Experience Package!
